How to be more productive in 2013.

If you’ve been finding it hard to get back into the swing of things after the new years break, then some well chosen productivity apps might be just what you need to get you going.

In today’s high-tech, fast moving age, having the right apps and software can make all the difference when you have a deadline looming. If you want to stay on top of your workload, then the best advice I can give is to plan out your work, streamline your workflow and manage your time effectively.

We’ve compiled a list of essential applications to make projects and freelancing that little bit easier.

Project Management Tools

1) Evernote

Great for getting the creative juices flowing, Evernote  lets you keep track of all those good ideas you have and can save everything inspiring and exciting that you see online and in the real world. Take a photo, record some audio or just make a text note, Evernote will then sync all of your data to your compatible devices. You can also share notebooks with colleagues to keep them updated with your latest ideas.

2) MindMeister

Mind Mapping is a technique that has been used for many years and thanks to MindMeister, you can now facilitate multi-user planning, brainstorming, and project management sessions, all from within a standard web browser.

Time Management Tools

1) Teux Deux

If you like making to-do lists, you will love TeuxDeux. This app works so well because it’s simple and intuitive to use, with a clear design.

2) Egg Timer

This is a simple web browser based tool that can help you stick to your mini deadlines. Just type in the amount of time you’ve decided to spend on your task and then focus on completing before the egg timer runs out.

1. Google Drive

Google Drive lets you store, share  and access your files anywhere – on the web, on your hard drive, or on the go. It’s great for collaborating with colleagues, once you’ve set up Google Drive you can place documents, PDFs and photos in the Google folder on your desktop and watch them sync with the Google cloud. Now all you need to do is share the files or folders with your workmates email and they will now have access to them too.

You get 5 GB of storage free and you can add more if you need to, at a cost of around £1.50 a month for 25 GB.

2. Digital Pigeon

Digital Pigeon is a large file delivery service, specifically designed with the creative industries in mind. You can send files of up to 5 GB in size with the top priced plan or a more reserved 500MB with the free ‘Starter Plan’. If your sending video files, they can be instantly viewed by your recipients on the desktop or even on their phones, without the need to download.
